The 2025 Rivian R1S; The EV Monster.

Hello and welcome to mozans, your new automotive job board. Today we’ll be exploring the all new electric Rivian vehicle, the 2025 Rivian R1S. We’ll specifically revealing:

Overview:

Rivian may be a fairly new automaker, but the company has taken the world by storm with its all-electric lineup. The company launched with a pickup truck called the R1T and then later expanded with a very similar SUV called the R1S, which we are exploring today. Now, Rivian has some exciting new products on the horizon, including a smaller crossover called the R2 and an even smaller one than that called the R3. But before those models arrive, the original R1T and R1S have gotten a second generation.

2025 Rivian R1S Exterior;

Let’s start with an exterior walkaround of the R1S. Honestly, there’s not a whole lot that you’re going to notice visually here unless you’re one of those people that post on the Rivian forums and know every color and trim change. We’ve got some updates in the headlights here; now there’s actually some cool RGB lights down here. This means, in addition to lighting up in white to be a headlight, they can also display various colors for cool hazard effects and Easter eggs. One of the standout features they showed us is how the lights can indicate if you want people to go around you to the right if you’re stopped in the middle of the road.

One of the updates visually is the new 22-inch wheels, which replace the old 21-inch wheels that came standard. Apologies for them being a bit dirty—we’ve been doing some light off-roading. These aero wheels are designed to maximize range, which is about 410 miles on this R1S model, quite impressive for an electric SUV. The wheels have a nice aero cap that you can remove without tools, though for maximum range, you should leave those caps on.

The R1S retains its boxy look, which I find fantastic. Not many changes are needed here. However, there’s a notable visual indicator for the different motor configurations: yellow brake calipers for the tri-motor version, silver accents for the dual motor, and a unique baby blue color for the quad motor, which also features Rivian’s gear guard mascot on the back. This allows you to differentiate between the models easily.

Interior And Cargo Of The 2025 Rivian R1S;

On the inside, die-hard Rivian fans won’t notice too many substantial differences in the cabin, but there are some updates worth mentioning. The seats are very comfortable and stylish, with new color options available, such as a bluish-gray. We’ve got heated and ventilated seats, although no massage function. The Rivian logo is a nice touch, and there’s a new plaid floor mat option available.

A few cool Easter eggs include a flashlight that ejects from the door, perfect for camping, and a portable Bluetooth speaker that pops out of the center console. There’s also a good amount of storage space, including a hidden compartment under the seat.

Technology and Connectivity.

The controls are streamlined: no start button—just put your foot on the brake. The digital gauge cluster displays speed and navigation, while the main screen offers features like YouTube, Spotify, and a Dolby Atmos sound system. The panoramic roof has an electrochromic feature to dim the light, which is great since there’s no physical shade.

The R1S is a three-row SUV, ideal for families. The second-row seats are comfortable, with amenities like a screen for controlling audio and heated seats. The third row is a bit tight but manageable for adults if the second row isn’t fully slid back. Each row has USB-C ports and storage spaces.

Cargo Space.

Cargo space is well-designed with a split tailgate, offering easy access to the rear. The lower portion is manual, creating a convenient spot to sit. There’s a good amount of storage under the floor, and you can fold down the second and third-row seats for more space. There’s also a 1,500-watt max outlet, potentially useful for an air compressor or other tools.

Performance and Powertrains:

Now, let’s get out on the road and talk about the motor changes. The dual motor version offers 533 horsepower, with a performance version boosting that to 665 horsepower, achieving 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. We’re driving the tri-motor variant, which has 850 horsepower and does 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The acceleration is astonishing for a three-row SUV.

Rivian also offers a quad-motor setup with 1,025 horsepower, achieving 0-60 mph in around 2.4 seconds. These performance figures are on par with sports cars, making the R1S one of the fastest SUVs on the market.

In terms of range, the tri-motor setup with the max battery pack can reach up to 410 miles, while the dual motor performance can achieve similar figures. The standard dual motor gets about 270 miles, with less range on off-road tires.

Air Suspension and Handling;

The R1S has an updated air suspension and hydraulic roll control. There’s a new soft mode for a more comfortable ride, though it might feel a bit too soft on highways. The moderate mode offers a better balance. The handling is impressive, with minimal body roll, even on winding roads. The R1S feels very athletic for a vehicle of its size and weight.

2025 Rivian R1S Price;

Finally, let’s talk about pricing. The 2025 R1S starts at just under $76,000 for the dual motor standard pack. The dual motor with the large battery pack is around $83,000. The dual motor max pack is just under $89,000, while the tri-motor version is just under $106,000. Pricing for the quad motor version will be announced later, but it’s expected to be quite high. Most models qualify for the $7,500 tax credit, potentially reducing the effective price.

Verdict;

The 2025 Rivian R1S impresses with its blend of innovative technology, robust performance, and refined luxury. With updated RGB headlights, advanced motor options, and thoughtful interior enhancements, the R1S stands out as a leading choice in the electric SUV market. Its extended range and off-road capabilities make it versatile for various driving needs. Rivian continues to establish itself as a formidable player in the EV space, offering a premium, stylish, and eco-friendly vehicle. If you’re in the market for a top-tier electric SUV, the Rivian R1S should be at the top of your list.
